Ancholme Herefords was established in 2005 by David & Jane Coulson. They are assisted by their two daughters Rebecca and Elizabeth. Rebecca works for Lincolnshire County Council and Elizabeth is currently studying at Riseholme (the agricultural part of the University of Lincoln). High Harbour Farm is situated on the outskirts of Middle Rasen in Lincolnshire. Most of their cattle graze on the Lincolnshire Wolds.
Our herd was founded on mainly Clipston Bloodlines with females from the Pansy, Tiara and Blossom families. Our first stock bull was Badlingham Bafca who was horned bull of the year 2003 and he has left some outstanding heifers which are now in the herd. Our next stock bull was Clipston Greystone who has left some excellent young bulls and heifers.
Our current senior stock bull is Panmure 1 Elvis and his first calves are looking very promising, he is a tremendous bull with great length and conformation. Our Junior stock bull is Braemar 1 Encore. He is a home bred bull out of our first calf Braemar 1 Commander. Initially we had to have two separate herd names for our horned and polled cattle which is why they have the prefix Braemar, now all our cattle run under the Ancholme prefix.
We calve about 90% of our cows in the Spring and our heifers have their first calf between 33 and 36 months of age. We keep all the bull calves entire but only sell the very best for breeding, the rest are fattened for slaughter.
Our aim is to breed bulls with exceptional conformation and temperament, and heifers that are very feminine with good udders and milking ability.
As a family we take great pleasure in showing our cattle and regularly enter Newark and Notts County Show, East of England Show, Lincolnshire Show, Yorkshire Show and Bakewell Show. We also entered the Royal Show before its demise.
