Job Role Assistant Herdsperson in Wiltshire Ref: 2291
We are seeking a keen assistant herdsperson/ Yard Person to support senior herdsperson and other team members on this 600 cow grass based herd. The herd calf September to March.
The position is for a reliable and enthusiastic assistant herdsperson/ Yard person to complete day-to-day routine alongside senior herdsperson and rest of the team. Assisting with a proportion of the milking, of which the morning milking is split into two shifts. If a candidate is interested in other work and has tractor experience or keen to learn more, there would be a mix of other duties including feeding, bedding, yard work, herd work, and stock work duties, with this unit running 1000 head of youngstock, to be housed in a newly built dedicated beef shed. Also yard duties to include scrapping, bedding etc.
The successful candidate will be confident and have previous experience of working around dairy cows, or basic milking experience as a minimum. The is a team role, so must be flexible and versatile to complete a mixed role. The
This role is mainly focused with the herd, milking and yard work.
The work pattern is alternated, with a week on starting at 4am for the start of milking routine, then the following week starting at 7am to join the end of the milking routine.
Work pattern would be looking at approximately 50-60hr week.
Permanent position with potential 1 bedroom apartment accommodation which would suit single person or couple only.
