The Farm

This progressive farm is in Gloucestershire and currently milking 350 commercial Friesian x Holsteins cows. The parlour is a 10x20 herringbone and milking is completed twice a day, which is in the process of undergoing improvements and expansions, within this farms progressive attitude, supplying a premium milk contract so standards need to be high and consistent. The farm rears all its own heifers and youngstock with buildings and ground away from the main farm stead, so a drivers licence is essential. 

The Role

We are looking for an head herdsperson to lead in the parlour, completing routine milking, herd health and care within a young, energetic team. They will be No.1 in leading the milking team, ensuring standards are kept and consistent, training other staff, detecting and treating and illness etc. Computer literacy would be preferred, with the option to take on more record keeping and use of computer programme for the herd. The unit runs an all year round calving system for a level milk profile, supplying a premium contract, so high standards and quality of work must be kept. Interest in foot trimming preferred, to pick up lame cows in between the routine foot trimmer visits. AI not essential, as outsourced. 

The Applicant

Experienced in milking and parlour operation, ability to work with and lead a small team, completing practical milking routine and training lesser experienced staff. 
Foottrimming will be beneficial but again, training and courses can be available for a keen, enthusiastic applicant. 
AI non-essential as it is currently outsourced. 
A keen interest in dairying and desire to expand knowledge and progress 

Accommodation

3 bedroom house accommodation available 3 miles from the farm.

Any additional Training and development can be offered with this role 
This is a contract position, where the successful person will operate as an agency worker with Farm Solutions. This means that the person will not have sub-contractor responsibilities and all statutory tax deductions and payments will be made by Farm Solutions on their behalf. Hourly pay operates, which includes pay for overtime hours worked.
