About

The Sacombe herd was founded in 1970, by Paull and his parents, and is the oldest herd within the UK herd book. Between 1970 and 1995, 23 females were imported from Switzerland, Austria, Germany and France.

Now totaling 150 breeding females and 200 followers, stock are reared commercially from a breeding policy designed to suit our farm. With limited rainfall we breed flesh rather than feed flesh, so our cows are medium in size with high fertility, longevity, docility and natural fleshing ability – a must for today’s market.

With 18 cow families in the herd we have a wealth of genetics at our fingertips and are fortunate to have used the very best stock sires the breed has to offer.

Sacombe Simmentals

The herd has been officially performance recorded since 1970 and is currently recorded through the ABRI system. Recent technology has seen DNA testing used across the herd to look at enhancing meat eating qualitites.

In the last couple of years the herd has seen a welcome return to the show and sale ring outside of the south east of England and in 2012 won the coveted Burke Trophy with the stock bull Clonagh World Class and Perrywood Wispa, a cow bred in Bridget’s own herd. The herd is very much writing it’s next major chapters with bloodlines off World Class and past herd sire Grangewood William proving to be a great asset in the herd.

2010 saw the establishment of a Blue Texel flock for Bridget’s son Sam. The Sacombe flock consists of Bishops, Miserden, Beili and Whatmore breeding with the aim of growing to 20 ewes.

Information

Sacombe Stars:

At Sacombe we pride ourselves on the wealth of Simmental genetics available to us.

We have searched both the UK and worldwide for the best bloodlines and have used not only some of the breed’s greatest stars, but some more modern rising stars as well.

We have a varied selection of Swiss, Austrian, German and French bloodlines in the herd, all with the same breed objectives vital for today’s market place – longevity, locomotion, fertility, calving ease and milk.

We also have an extensive stock of embryos based on some of the herd’s major success stories.

Kleeb

This family has been four decades in the making and is without doubt the most successful and prolific in the herd. The first female from this line was sold back in to New Zealand and progeny has also been sold to Canada and America.

Recent success stories from this family have been Sacombe Carona-Kleeb who sold at the inaugural Leading Ladies sale in Carlisle for 6200gns.

Bouquette

Although the original cow only produced two daughters back in the 70’s, this family has sprung back in to prominence and is now an integral part of the herd, producing many show winners and has turned out to be another great strong family line.

Recent success stories have included Sacombe Amy-Bouquette, a regular show winner on the 2011 and 2012 circuit and her calf, Sacombe Dainty-Bouquette who in 2012 was the English National Show calf champion.

Senneri

An exceptional family originating from the original Senneri herself who was born in 1969. Progeny and descendents include Sacombe Benno sold to HM The Queen, Sacombe Shamus, Supreme Champion RASE, Sacombe Whishful Thinking, Supreme Champion and Top Price Perth and Perrywood Wispa, half of winning Burke Trophy Pair 2012.

Alfa

he Alfa line is proving to be a real cow maker and some progeny have also had great success on the show circuit. This is a recessive red gene carrying family as well.

Bull Power

Continuing our passion at Sacombe for quality genetics, our sire selection process is based on some of the true greats of the breed.

We believe in selecting bulls which not only compliment our female genetic based, but will help create the type of cow for today’s market place.

A big believer in using estimated breeding values and DNA testing, we also look for power, length, locomotion and natural fleshing ability.

We currently have three herd sires along with an extensive store of semen.

Current Herd Sires:

Islavale Fagan

  • Sire: Curahen Bandit
  • Dam: Islavale Tarka

Fagan carries a TPI of +90 and a SRI of +110, along with an eye muscle area of +4.3. He’s a well grown bull with great colour, character and correctness and will hopefully make a great addition to the herd for William and World Class daughters. His pedigree is packed with performance and being an outcross line for the Sacombe herd, we’re looking forward to seeing his progeny.

Fagan was reserve junior champion at Stirling in October 2015 and was purchased for 11,000gns.

Clonagh World Class ''Needs no introduction''

  • Sire: Kilbride Farm Newry
  • Dam:Clonagh Posh Klowna

Purchased at the Clonagh Production Sale for €6600, World Class is a Kilbride Farm Newry son out of Clonagh Posh-Klowna, who is a daughter of Anatrim Jacob. He was purchased to add power to the herd and on purchase we were particularly impressed with his growth rate for his age, his correctness and power in his backend.

He certainly hasn’t disappointed us......At just 17 months old World Class weighed in at 1030kg and he has averaged 2kg from birth to 510 days.

2010 show results:

  • Male and breed champion Herts County Show
  • Reserve male champion East of England Show
  • Male and overall reserve breed champion Royal Norfolk Show
  • Reserve overall junior champion Great Yorkshire Show (National Show)
  • 2012 show results:
  • Male and reserve breed champion English National Show, Peterborough
  • Male, breed and Continental interbreed champion Royal Norfolk Show
  • Burke Trophy Winner
  • First prize senior bull Royal Highland Show
  • Male and breed champion South of England Show
  • Breed and reserve interbreed Herts County Show

Sacombe Balmoral

  • Sire: Sacombe Nijinsky N68
  • Dam: Sacombe Louise-Oma

Originally sold in Stirling to Ann and Tony Jukes for their Swallowhill herd, we decided to buy back a half share in this bull as we had huge success with his sire Nijisky and its unfortunate we don't have more of his daughters!

Swallowhill have their first calves hitting the ground now and we look forward to calving ours in the spring 2013.

Sowenna Class Act 11

  • Sire: Sowenna Womble
  • Dam: Sowenna Willow

Purchased privately in 2012, Class Act is the highest Simmental ever recorded through ABRI to date and currently boasts a TSI of +113 and a SRI of +109. He has been used selectively across both high and average figured females in the herd. His first calves hit the ground in early 2014 and we’re really pleased with them.

Blue Texels

The Sacombe flock of Blue Texels was established in 2010 with the purchase of two females from Andrew and Becky Bishops dispersal. The flock has grown and other bloodlines including Whatmore, Miserden, Millside and Beili, have been purchased. The aim is to increase the size up to 20 breeding females with tups and females soon to be available for sale both on a pedigree and commercial level.
