Twyford Simmentals was started in 1982 at Twyford in Norfolk, where Tony lived for 26 years. He went to the Forstal dispersal sale in Kent and bought Forstal Lombard, Lena and Forstal Linda. He ran them with his suckler cows untill 1984. He then on marrying Phillida moved the suckler cows to Beck Farm and increased the herd to about a hundred Blue/Grey and x-bred cows.
Slowly we increased the pure bred Simmentals over the years, buying from dispersal sales all over England and Scotland, including buying some great fleshy cows from the late John Marshall of the Solway herd in Scotland. In 1988 Tony bought Brinkton Sovreign from Perth Bull sale, where he was overall Champion. This was the start of our success! He ran with our herd of Simmentals for the next four years, and was the sire of most of our show cows who achieved three supreme Champion's at the Royal Show along with many more!
Gretna House Supersonic was bought in 1992 from the late Mr Finny, and ran him with our Sovreign heifers and our main herd sire. He was here for seven years, sadly at the age of thirteen we had to have him put down, but he ran with the cows right up to the end.
Next Balmanno Hitman arrived, bought privately from Mrs Jukes. He was our herd sire for two and half years, he left some very correct cattle in both our pedigree and x-bred herds.
In 2003 Tony went back to Perth Bull sales and bought another Perth champion, Blackford Nobleman, he was our herd sire till 2010. leaving some very big strong Cows and bulls.
In 2008 Kilbride Farm Valour was purchased from W H.Robson & son, while at his farm with the World Congress, to run with our Nobleman daughters. We now have many nice young bulls and heifers by him with good flesh, growth and confirmation.
We then ran Clonagh Banwy's Bad Boy and Curaheen Birette who came from Southern Ireland purchased from the Premier Sale at Rosscommon in March 2011.
Bad Boy was successfully shown in his first summer as a two year old and Now runs with the pedigree cows and the x- bred cows. Curaheen Birette who has now been sold, ran with Pedigree Heifers and x- bred cows we have pedigree and x- bred cows by him in our herds
Now after 33 years of breeding Simmentals, We have 19 Pedigree Simmental cows, and after 12 years of breeding Angus we have 13 Pedigree Aberdeen Angus cows.
We bought Angus cows from around England and Scotland mostly at sales...some of the best cows (2) came from the Shadwell Estate on red and one black! Then we bought from an on Farm Sale, three Wedderlie cows with three heifer calves on them and three heifer calves inside them, which gave us very good foundation Cows. We now have 40 Pedigree Angus on the farm! Our Stock Bull, bought from Perth Bull Sales; Jerusalem Mr Bojangles by Blelack Blacksmith out of Netherton Missie has bred some very good stock, which have been very successful for us. This year (2015) we now have all home bred cows in our herd! Having sold Mr Bojangles we now have Gretnahouse Lord Hefty as our herd sire...
We have now cut down both our Simmental and Angus herds to under 20 cows in each herd, but have increased our x-bred cows to 100....who run with our British Blue Bull and Simmental Bulls some who are home bred...... we finish all bulls that don't go for breeding....they are finished in 12 to 15 months and are sold to our local abattoir H G Blake Ltd...... We keep most of the heifers for replacements if not sold for breeding...
**** We have stock for sale all the year, vistors are always welcome.****
